First Assistant Prosecutor
On Monday, June 13, 2016, Mayor Frank G. Jackson swore-in the newest employee for the City of Cleveland Law Department. Mayor Jackson administered the oath of office to James H. Hewitt III who will serve as the First Assistant Prosecutor for the City Prosecutor’s Office. In addition, members of the Law Department, family members and friends were in attendance at Director Hewitt’s swearing in ceremony.
James H. Hewitt III most recently served as a judge for the Cleveland Municipal Court. His previous experience includes roles as the principal in Hewitt Law LLC, James H. Hewitt Co. LPA and Coaxum and Hewitt, LPA. Mr. Hewitt has more than 33 years of legal experience. He has served as the law director of the City of East Cleveland and as a bar examiner for the Ohio Board of Bar Examiners. Mr. Hewitt has been the president of the Cuyahoga County Law Directors Association and The Phillis Wheatley Association. He is a member of the Cleveland and Norman S. Minor Bar Associations.
First Assistant Prosecutor is a graduate of St. Ignatius High School and he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Macalester College in Minnesota and his Juris Doctorate from Cleveland State University’s Cleveland Marshall College of Law. He is a Cleveland resident and serves as a deacon at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church. In addition, members of the Law Department, family members and friends were in attendance at Director Hewitt’s swearing in ceremony.
