Kevin Schmotzer has been employed in the City’s Department of Economic Development since 1998. He works with government agencies and local banks to provide financial assistance for commercial, retail, industrial and technology businesses to help them remain in or relocate to the City.
Recent projects include the following relocation and /or expansion businesses/projects in Downtown Cleveland: Questex Media, Corner Alley, Education Loan Express, Quicken Loans, Kolbus America, Wonderbar Café, PR Newswire, PriceWaterHouse Coopers, Mocha Fusion/20 Martini Bar & Café, Euclid Corridor Small Business Loan Program, Vetus Partners and BC Investments. The development projects account for over 1,500 new & retained jobs and over $30 million in private investment.
Currently, as the Executive for Small Business Development he focuses specifically on the growth and expansion of small businesses within the City of Cleveland.
Prior to coming to the City of Cleveland, he worked for the City of Avon Lake in the Planning Department. One key project during his employment there included securing and administering an $820,000 State grant for design of a $1.1 million bicycle/pedestrian trail system throughout the city.
Kevin has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration & Marketing from the University of Akron and a Master of Urban Planning, Design and Development degree from Cleveland State University Levin College of Urban Affairs.
He enjoys coordinating fundraising for homeless dogs and cats and is an active member of the North Coast Athletics Volleyball (NCAV) and E4S (Entrepreneurs for Sustainability). In addition, he is the Loan Review Committee Chairperson for Growth Capital.
