Peace Officers Memorial

The Greater Cleveland Peace Officers’ Memorial Society paid a special tribute to honor fallen public servants during its 31st Annual Peace Officers Memorial Day Parade and Memorial Service for the Northeast Ohio region which includes Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Geauga, Lake and Northern Summit Counties. The Police Memorial Service was held at Huntington Park. This year’s Annual Police Memorial Commemoration Week is held from Saturday, May 14, 2016 through Sunday, May 22, 2016 in honor of fallen police officers.

On Friday, May 20, Mayor Frank G. Jackson was joined by Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish; Michael McGrath, Director of Public Safety; Calvin Williams, Chief of Police; Charles W. Lane Jr., President, Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society, and hundreds of Police Officers for the 31st Annual Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Service. Also in attendance, were the families of fallen officers, elected officials, current and retired police, supporters of law enforcement and military service members.

This year’s memorial service themed Keeping the Promise, included the singing of two National Anthems, the Star Spangled Banner and Oh Canada, along with other musical tributes, a wreath presentation, a special moment of silence, a rifle salute, the carrying and raising of the United States of America flag and various speakers.
