New Police Commander

Mayor Frank G. Jackson was joined by the Director of Public Safety Michael McGrath and other public safety members to administer the oath of office to Johnny Johnson, Captain for Public Safety’s Division of Police. Mayor Jackson swore-in Captain Johnson as the City of Cleveland’s newest Commander for the Bureau of Community Policing for the Cleveland Division of Police. In addition, family members and friends were also in attendance at Captain’s Johnson’s swearing in ceremony. 

He was appointed to the Division of Police, June 5, 1995. Captain Johnson was promoted to Sergeant of Police in 2008, promoted to Lieutenant in 2013 and promoted to Captain on June 29, 2015.  His service includes assignments in the First District, Fifth District, Cops in Schools Unit, the Office of Professional Standards and the Chief’s Office. Captain Johnson received the Chief’s Letter of Commendation from former Chief of Police Martin Flask.

He is currently pursuing a degree in public safety management at Cleveland State University and is a resident of Cleveland’s North Collinwood community.
