What is the Fire Department's Smoke House?

The Fire Department has a trailer laid out like the standard floor plan of a house. It is used to teach children how to move around in the event of a fire. We use a non-toxic smoke to act like real smoke, which is why it is called a "Smoke House."

Q1288
How should I care for a smoke detector?

Vacuum it once or twice a year to remove any dust or cobwebs. This will cut down on false alarms. Most battery powered smoke detectors will 'chirp' sporadically when the battery is weak. The Fire Department recommends that batteries be changed twice a year, perhaps two personally significant days, or when you change your clocks in the spring or fall.
