Division of Correction Careers

A career in the Division of Correction offers steady employment with an opportunity for advancement.

Correction Officers provide a safe and secure environment for a diverse population in the Cleveland City Jail and the Cleveland House of Correction. Their duties may include:

  • transporting, clothing, and feeding inmates, 
  • monitoring housing units,
  • ensuring social service contacts, and
  • perimeter security.

Training and experience provided by the Cleveland Division of Correction is comprehensive and allows candidates to learn a variety of skills they will carry with them throughout their lives.

The Division of Correction also employs nurses and social workers as well as food service, clerical, maintenance, and recreation staff.

  • Must obtain Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (O.P.O.T.A.) Correctional Officer’s certification within one year of date of hire.
  • Must complete approved firearm training and qualify within one year of date of hire.
