Aimed at curbing the number of weapons on the street, Mayor Frank G. Jackson and the City of Cleveland Public Safety Division of Police launched the gun buyback programs 10 years ago in a strong effort to cut crime. Many citizens sold their guns to the City for cash with no questions asked in exchange for gift cards or ticket. This event allowed Cleveland's Division of Police to purchase hundreds of privately owned firearms from residents.
