Trained through the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, these residents are able to offer assistance in a disaster even before professional emergency crews arrive on the scene.
This twenty hour training and disaster simulation drill focus on:
light search and rescue
terrorism and CERT
disaster medical operations
CERT members are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in community emergency preparedness projects. Attendees to this free program come from all walks of life, echoing the cultural, economical, and generational diversity of the city.
Key to protecting the community from terrorists is awareness. In addition to knowing what a terrorist incident is, it is important to understand the types of activity which necessitate police involvement. TAP presentations are free and available for groups including factories and other businesses, schools, block clubs, and community organizations.
