Currently, Cleveland’s Division of Police does not offer this service, but it can done through a private agency or by some suburban police departments.
681. My vehicle was towed. How do I get it back?
The vehicle release counter is located on the 1 st Floor of the Police Headquarters at 1300 Ontario St. The owner must show a valid ID and proof of ownership of the vehicle (title and registration). There is a fee for every tow. Call 216.623.5079 for fees and additional information.
682. What are the Curfew Laws in Cleveland?
If a child is found in violation of curfew, minor misdemeanor citations are issued to the parents, and fines are $224.
Students must not be on the streets on school days between 10 am and 2 pm. There are exceptions for early dismissal, alternative schools, and working students. In those cases, the student must have either a pass or ID indicating the alternate school and/or working hours.

683. Can anything be done about loud music coming from cars or homes?
Offensively loud music is against the law. The law defines loud music as
“plainly audible to persons other than those who are in the room in which such device or instrument is played (683.01)”; or “plainly audible to persons other than the occupants of said vehicle (683.02)”.
Police may warn or cite the offenders, and may confiscate the equipment.
684. Where do I call to report a suspected drug house?
Call your local police station and ask for the Commander’s Office or the Vice Unit. Or call the Mayor’s Action Line at 216.664.2900. You do not have to leave your name and number.
Please have as much information as possible including the address, time/day of most activity and where they make transactions (side door, alley, etc.). If there is a crime in progress, report it to 911.
685. Do I have to call the Traffic Unit downtown to report traffic issues?
No, call your local police station and they will assist you.
686. How do I check a person’s criminal record?

Apply for a permit with the Bureau of Traffic (phone: 216.623.5188, fax: 216.623.5190) 2001 Payne Avenue. A representative will contact you to arrange pick-up of the application after approval, and will provide you with instructions to complete the process which includes coordinating with the Special Events Office, the Safety Director’s Office, and a fee of 10.00.

You must complete these steps:
pass a written exam, physical agility test, and drug screening
undergo background, psychological and medical evaluations
If selected, you begin intensive training lasting 26 weeks, during which you must maintain a grade of 70% or higher

Yes- the Auxiliary Police program is a tremendous opportunity. In this program, trained unarmed auxiliary officers volunteer a minimum of 20 hours per month patrolling, assisting at special events and crime fairs, and working to improve the quality of life in our city’s neighborhoods. 695. How does a victim of a misdemeanor crime (assualt or minor theft) press charges?
The police will give a report number to the victim and advise them to contact the city prosecutor. The Prosecutor's office is on the eighth floor of the Justice Center 1300 Ontario and open to the public weekdays from 8 am until noon. Prosecutor consultations are on a first come, first served basis, so no appointment is necessary. They can be reached at 216.664.4850

72. What are the educational requirements to sign up for the Police Officer Civil Service Exam?
Although many members of the Division have Associate, Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate Degrees, the educational requirement is graduation from an accredited high school or an accredited general equivalency diploma (GED). Applicants must provide documentation when signing up for the exam.
73. Are there any physical requirements when taking the Civil Service exam?
After completing the Civil Service written exam, an applicant will be ranked. Based upon that rank the applicant may be called to take a physical agility test. The physical agility test is pass or fail.
74. If an applicant passes the Civil Service exam and the physical agility test what may disqualify an applicant from becoming a police officer?
Any felony conviction would automatically disqualify an applicant.
Certain misdemeanors, such as Domestic Violence, or a combination of misdemeanors could disqualify an applicant from being hired.
Providing false information can also cause you to be removed from the eligible list.
71. Can I receive any bonus points for residency and/or military with the Civil Service exam?
An applicant may receive ten (10) bonus points for residency if he/she has lived in the City of Cleveland for one (1) year prior to signing up for the test. The applicant must show proof of residency by providing the following: Driver's License, Bank statements, Utility Bills, Mortgage release, Insurance Statements.
An applicant may receive five (5) bonus points for military if he/she has actively served in the military and has received an honorable discharge. During sign-up, the applicant must show his/her DD214 discharge papers indicating honorable discharge or for active personnel, have served at least six months and have a letter from their Commanding Officer indicating honorable status.
76. What is the pay rate while a recruit is in the police academy?
$10.50 an hour.
77. How long is the police academy?
Approximately six months.
183. I think my car was towed by the police. What do I do now?
Contact the Cleveland Police Impound Unit at (216)623-5060. If the police did tow your vehicle, you will be required to bring documentation and payment with you in order for your car to be released.
78. What are the physical requirements while in the police academy?
1.5 mile timed run, push ups, sit ups.
83. I currently work for another police agency. If I get a job as a Cleveland officer, will my time carry over?
