Division of Waste Collection and Disposal

This Division provides weekly collection of waste from 155,000 Cleveland homes, the West Side Market, Fire and Police Stations, the Justice Center, City Hall and other City buildings, and public areas.

It also places dumpsters at neighborhood events and community functions and plays an active role in special cleanup programs. Dumpsters are also available for commercial accounts and homeowners.

  • Household Hazardous Waste Collection

    Common household products found in the kitchen, basement, bath, and garage can emit toxic vapors into homes, and can be harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly. These products can be disposed of safely during the City of Cleveland’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection.

  • Updated List: City Recycling Drop Off Sites

    As residents take advantage of the convenience of curbside recycling, drop-off sites have seen a decline in usage The City will continue to to accept bulk recycling at its Ridge Road Transfer Facility. Accepted items include glass, paper, plastic, metals and cardboard. In addition to the Ridge Road facility, a number of additional recycling drop-off sites will remain available.

  • September 5th to 9th: Scrap Tire Drop Off

    Residents may drop off up to ten tires per household at 2 locations. This free service is for residents only, and tires will not be accepted from vehicles with commercial plates.

  • City Provides Free Document Shredding!

    Residents can drive up and drop off documents or stay and watch the 4,500 pound per hour shredder in action at 5600 Carnegie Avenue weekdays, and some Saturdays.

  • City and County Accept Computers and Cell Phones for Recycling

    The City of Cleveland and the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District have teamed up to recycle unwanted computer equipment and cell phones. All collected computer equipment will either be upgraded and distributed to schools or recycled. Equipment may be dropped off at two locations weekdays and some Saturdays.

About the Automated Waste Collection Program

The automated waste-collection program is significantly more efficient and user-friendly, and should encourage more participation in recycling, since items can be recycled curbside.Through this program, residents receive sturdy garbage carts for trash and recycling which can be wheeled to the curb. The program will also allow Clevelanders to recycle yard waste including grass clippings and branches. -More
