Waste Collection FAQs

What do I do with my bulk trash?

On the first full week each month on your designated collection day, you may set out three bulk items plus up to four tires. Items which are considered bulk are large items that will not fit in your carts such as: appliances (stoves, refrigerators, microwaves); table sets (one table and 4 chairs equals one item); mattresses and box springs; and couches and other furniture. In addition, you can place up to four tires out on bulk day.

Q10181
What do I do with my bulk trash when it is not a bulk collection week?

If possible, hold on to the items until bulk pick-up week. Your bulk pick-up day is the regular trash day for your street during the first full week of the month. You also have the option of renting a dumpster from the City of Cleveland or a private hauler. You can also drop off the items at the Ridge Road Transfer Station for free (restrictions may apply). If you need to set out bulk items other than the first full week of the month, you must call 216.664.3711 to schedule.

Q10182
We are told that we can no longer set excess trash or recycling out outside of the carts. What can we do with it?

All trash and recycling needs to be contained inside the trash or recycling cart. If you have extra that will not fit, please hold on to it until the next week's collection or drop it off at the Ridge Road Transfer Station (restrictions may apply) at no charge. If you find that you frequently don’t have enough room in your cart, another cart can be leased from the city for a one-time $50 fee by calling 216.664.3717.

Q10188
I live next to an apartment building that has its trash picked up by a truck at 5:00 a.m. The noise wakes me and my family. Is this legal?

By law, collection must occur between 6 am and 7 pm weekdays and 6 am and 4 pm Saturdays. However, there are exceptions, such as areas with heavy daytime traffic and heavy commercial activity, which may have collections at other times. Call 216.664.3711 for more information.
