Community Development

The Department of Community Development is responsible for planning, administering, and evaluating HUD funds. The Department implements programs designed to conserve and expand the housing stock; revitalize commercial areas; acquire, maintain, and market vacant land; improve the quality of human services; and develop small area or neighborhood strategies.

  • 2016 Storefront Program Awards Keynote Speech

    The 2016 Storefront Program Awards event was held on May 15, 2016. Richard Pace, CEO, Cumberland Real Estate Development, was the keynote speaker for the event. The program helps neighborhood retail districts become more attractive, economically viable, and diverse places to visit and shop by assisting in the design and funding of signage and the rehabilitation of traditional storefront buildings.

  • IRS Officials Warn of Uptick in Phone Scams

    The Internal Revenue Service is urging taxpayers to be vigilant due to an increase in IRS impersonation scams by automated phone calls and new scams involving demands for tax payments on iTunes and other gift cards.  

  • Medical Identity Theft Crimes Growing

    One of the fastest growing crimes is Medical Identity Theft, a crime where someone illegally uses personal information to obtain medical and prescription care, including surgery and advanced costly procedures.  A thief may use someone's name or health insurance numbers to see a doctor, get prescription drugs, file claims with an insurance provider, or get other care. This can affect the victim's treatment, insurance and payment records, and credit report.

  • Storefront Renovation Program (SRP) Assists Neighborhood Retail Districts

    Cleveland’s SRP helps retail districts become attractive, economically viable, and diverse places to visit and shop by assisting in the design and funding of signage and the rehabilitation of traditional storefront buildings.
