How do I enter Civil Service?
First you must pass a test. Tests are given by the Civil Service Commission of the City of Cleveland for jobs where the City expects openings. Persons who pass a test are ranked in order of their score and are referred for interviews by that order.

How do I apply for Civil Service tests?
Once you have identified a position you want to apply for, you can pick up an application at the Civil Service Commission. Or you can download the application where a posting is available. Also:
You can only apply for examinations when they are open, not before and not after
You must file by 5 pm on the closing date of the announcement
You must file separately for separate jobs
You must include your address and social security number
There is a $10 filing fee for processing each application
Applications must be notarized
You must meet the minimum qualifications stated on the announcement

How do I know if I'm eligible for a job with the City of Cleveland, and when do I get to take the Civil Service exam?
Civil Commission will review the applications, decide eligibility, and inform candidates about two weeks in advance of the test. If your eligibility is not approved, you will be informed by mail.
