1506. Does the Department of Aging have a home repair program for seniors?

Yes, the Department of Aging has the Senior Homeowner Assistance Program (SHAP). SHAP provides a one-time grant to low-income Cleveland residents age 60+ and disabled adults who reside in (and own) single or two-family homes in need of critical health, safety and maintenance repairs. Typical repairs include: roof repair or replacement, major electrical work, major plumbing work, repair or replacing the front and/or back steps, porch repairs, and the installation of ramps.

1507. I am a low-income Senior with a housing violation. Can I receive any assistance?

Yes, Senior Initiative goals are:

  • to provide Cleveland seniors and disabled adults assistance with home repair
  • to help them avoid becoming victims of predatory lenders or scam contractors
  • to help them avoid citation for housing violations
This initiative is a cooperative effort between the Departments of Aging, Building and Housing, Community Development, Consumer Affairs, Public Health, and Law. For information, call the Department of Aging at 216.664.2833.
