Why is Mayor Jackson hosting Sustainable Cleveland 2019?
To bring together a diverse group of people who are vested in and dedicated to greater Cleveland to use their vast knowledge, experience and vision to create an action plan for building a green economy and sustainable future for Cleveland.

Is this just another conference?
This is NOT a conference. This is a three-day interactive appreciative inquiry summit with large-group interactive change methods, small group work sessions, and expert-led panel discussions. The result of the work done at the summit will be an action plan, with identifiable next steps.

What is Appreciative Inquiry?

  • Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is a systematic, five-step process that engages individuals within an organization or system in a process designed to renew, change and focus the performance of the system.
  • The five steps are definition, discovery, dream, design, and deliver.
  • AI helps systems renew, change and focus performance by identifying and focusing on the best of "what is" in order to actively pursue the possibilities of "what could be".

Who is attending?
Cleveland stakeholders, including corporate executives, blue collar workers, civic leaders, neighborhood residents, suburban residents, students, retirees, elected officials, educators, green industry experts, and regional stakeholders and more…

Is there a cost to participate in Sustainable Cleveland 2019?
No – the Summit is being conducted free of charge, thanks to the generous support of our funders.

Do I have to come all three days?
YES. The success of the summit depends on the attendance and active contributions of stakeholders to the Appreciate Inquiry process. During the three-day summit, participants will use AI to create the action plan for Cleveland’s sustainable future.

Who is running the summit?
The City of Cleveland is conducting the summit, which will be facilitated by Case Western Reserve University’s Fowler Center for Sustainable Value. The Summit will be led by David Cooperrider, the Fairmount Minerals Professor of Social Entrepreneurship at the Weatherhead School of Management, Faculty Director of the Fowler Center for Sustainable Value, and co-creator of Appreciative Inquiry.
