The goal of the City’s Automated Traffic Enforcement program is to reduce traffic violations and, as a result, decrease crashes, prevent injuries, and save lives. By law, thirty days before a Cleveland traffic camera is fully operational, an advisory is issued to the general public. Once the camera is in use, there is a period of two weeks during which only warning notices are issued. Drivers are encouraged to adhere to driving laws and to observe traffic signs and signals. Radar equipment can detect a vehicle exceeding the speed limit or running a red light. The date, speed, location and tag number are recorded and a notice is mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner.
