Positions will expand critical service to Cleveland neighborhoods

CLEVELAND, Ohio –The City of Cleveland is accepting applicants for the Division of Fire. Applications are available Wednesday, March 15 to Saturday, April 15. Testing is Saturday, April 1 to Sunday, April 30. To complete an application and schedule a testing date and location, visit the City of Cleveland Online Job Application. Candidates are required to complete the application and take the test online.

“Thanks to the citizens of Cleveland for passing Issue 32, we now have the opportunity and resources to increase our first responder services across Cleveland,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson.

The addition of new firefighters in the City of Cleveland is part of Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s effort to enhance the quality of life in Cleveland neighborhoods by reducing emergency response times.

Mayor Jackson, who announced his 2017 budget enhancements on February 1, promised Cleveland residents a renewed focus on critical services in area neighborhoods. Services such as police, fire and emergency medical services will all receive significant increases in staff and equipment as a result of Issue 32.

The Division of Fire has increased its budget by $2.8 million, with an additional fire company, support personnel, safety equipment and a records system update. The new openings are due in part to the mayor’s enhanced 2017 budget, and the retirement of veteran firefighters from the division.

“The Cleveland Division of Fire consists of brave, committed men and women who understand the importance of providing critical services to our neighborhoods and residents,” said Fire Chief Angelo Calvillo. “This is a rigorous application process, but we are excited to have additional resources and manpower.

Help with the application process or access to a computer is available at Cleveland City Hall located at 601 Lakeside Avenue. Human Resources (Room 121) and Civil Service (Room 119) personnel are available to assist.
