City of Cleveland Welcomes the 44th Fire Academy Class

Thursday, September 13, 2018

Class is a result of the enhanced budget and will help improve critical first responder services to Cleveland neighborhoods

CLEVELAND, Ohio –The City of Cleveland’s Division of Fire welcomed a new class of cadets. The 20 cadets began their training on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018. The 18-week class will include Emergency Medical Technician Basic and Firefighter 1 training courses. The new class is a direct result of Mayor Frank G. Jackson’s enhanced budget and the passage of Issue 32 in Nov. 2016

“I welcome these new Fire Cadets and wish them well in their training as they prepare to serve the citizens and visitors to the City of Cleveland,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson.

Academy graduation is tentatively scheduled for January 2019.

Mayor Jackson promised Cleveland residents a renewed focus on critical services in area neighborhoods.  Services such as police, fire and emergency medical services will continue to receive increases in staffing and equipment as a result of Issue 32.

“Cleveland Fire is committed to providing rapid response to emergency situations in Cleveland,” said Chief of Fire Angelo Calvillo. “Our new class of cadets will improve response time, performance and save lives.”

The Division of Fire recently graduated 39 firefighters. One class of 20 fire cadets will begin in late 2018 to maintain staff levels and account for retirement of veteran staff.
